Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Discovery House.
Please note that we are not currently accepting new volunteer applications. We anticipate the program re-opening in April 2023 and we encourage you to check back then!
Thank you for understanding.
We have a number of regular donations we receive that we rely on drivers to pick up and drop off at the shelter. If you like to drive and meet new people (AKA: our wonderful donors!), this role is for you. Days and times are flexible depending on your schedule.
If your biggest strengths include cleaning and organization, the care of the donation centre and food pantry are for you. We receive so many generous donations of items and food and need both rooms to be in their best shape to make sure we can care for our clients in an efficient manner. You would be organizing shelves, checking expiry dates on food, and ensuring general cleanliness of the spaces.
If you deem yourself a handyperson, this role is for you.
When clients move out, we need to prepare the suites for new families moving in. This includes tasks such as general repairs, painting, and decorating, to ensure families have a warm and welcoming place to call home.
Looking for a way to engage your employees and give back?
Get in touch with us to learn more about our corporate/group volunteer opportunities available!
If you love to work with children and want to help bring joy into their lives, this role is for you. Tasks would include engaging in one-on-one or group play with the kids, serving snacks, and more.
As a member of the Board, a director acts in a position of trust and is collectively responsible with other directors for the effective governance of Discovery House. The primary responsibility of the Board is to set the mission and vision for Discovery House and to put in place the strategy and the policies to see them realized. Board members are elected for one three-year term and can be re-elected for a second three-year term.
Community members with specific knowledge and expertise are also invited to join a committee of the Board as non-voting members to participate in the business of the committee. Community members are appointed to a committee for one year but can be reappointed for additional years depending on the need of the organization and willingness of the community members.
