Discovery House is NOT an emergency shelter.
Please refer to the list of emergency shelters at the bottom of the page for immediate support.
We are a 1-year residential program for women and children fleeing domestic violence who require longer-term safety, support, and recovery. This is referred to as a second stage shelter. Because of this, there is often a waitlist of families waiting to come to Discovery House from places like Emergency Shelters.
Discovery House is part of the The Shared Intake Program. This is a collaboration between all three of Calgary’s second-stage shelters: The Heart Home Network, The Sonshine Centre, and Discovery House. You only need to apply once and are placed on a single waitlist until a unit becomes available in one of the three shelters.
For information about the other second stage shelters, please visit their websites at the Heart Home Network and The Sonshine Centre.
