2022-23 Annuals and Financials

Our vision is to see our communities free of family violence

THE NEED

Alberta has the third-highest rate of police-reported intimate partner violence in Canada. The number of women in Alberta who are turned away from shelters has increased by over 40%, and approximately 75% of those women and children are at severe or extreme risk of being killed by their partner.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS

Discovery House provides transitional housing and care to families with children leaving domestic violence. We give women and children longer-term, safe places to call home while they rebuild their lives. Mothers receive counselling, support, and programs to ensure they can build a better future for themselves and their children. A key focus of our work is to help children heal from their trauma to live their best lives. This helps prevent the cycle of domestic violence from repeating.

Discovery House’s mission is to end the traumatic cycle of domestic violence for women to girls.
