Summer Camp: The Discovery House Summer Camp is run by the Child and Youth Team and the Child Development Centre for children and youth aged 0 - 16. The program starts in July and runs until early August. Kids are taken on field trips once a week to different locations around the city (dependent on funding) and the rest of the week are engaged in other activities within the community that help them to build relationship skills, trust building and more. All while giving their mothers a break on childcare as they head to work, school and more.
Raising our Children Together with Elder Pam: This 6-week series allows mothers and their children to work with Elder Pam Heavy Head on trauma-informed traditional Indigenous learnings and practices, with the goal of building stronger families. The series ran from June to July of 2022 and ended with a traditional naming ceremony where each child was given an Indigenous name that spoke to their character and family lineage. We were very pleased with how this program turned out and the participation that we had throughout. We hope to be able to offer the program again next summer.
