Our Community Housing Program (CHP) is a unique initiative that helps families find safe, affordable, and appropriate housing throughout the city. Our staff work with families to help them reach their goals and provide support for up to two years.

Each year, we help families find homes in affordable rental properties. Our clients sign their own leases, but we work with them to understand lease agreements, their rights and responsibilities as tenants, and help find subsidies. We also help cover some of their moving costs such as transportation and damage deposits.

While these clients live independently in the community, they still have access to Discovery House programming and support, with our team helping them connect to community resources. When families settle into a community, they get to be a part of a neighbourhood, enjoy outdoor spaces, and begin their journey to independence.

Discovery House was the first organization in Canada to have a community housing program that works with families that are healing from the trauma of domestic violence.

I wouldn’t have found housing and gone back to school without Discovery House’s support. Now I can budget on my own, I’m getting straight A’s and I have help for my son who has a lot of challenges.
