Help moms and children rebuild
Annually, about 70% of our clients are children. They aren’t just a witness to violence; they carry its impact into school, relationships, and adulthood unless healing begins now.
For every dollar invested in domestic violence prevention and intervention initiatives, there is a return of $20. This return includes reduced costs of services such as healthcare, the justice system, and social services.
Discovery House’s well-loved shelter, first occupied in 2004, has supported thousands of mothers and their children. After years of service, the building needs upgrades and modernization to best support the women and their families. Over the past year, donors and Discovery House have upgraded six apartments and converted one accessible suite. Your support will now help complete the additional 12 units and other common areas including an art therapy room, counselling rooms, and other safe, calming spaces for mother and their children. The work will also improve energy efficiency, improve air flow and ventilation.
Thanks to donors like you, we have raised more than $6.5 million towards our $10 million goal. Stay tuned here for more updates as Campaign progress is made.
Make no mistake, we support women and children from every community – domestic violence doesn’t care how fancy your house is.
Severity is on the rise, across the city, and we need to end it. And that happens through prevention, through healing children – healthy children learn healthy relationships.
At Discovery House, we focus on healing the trauma experienced by children and their moms. We stem the tide of violence that ripples through generations. Our work is in prevention – with your support, the cycle stops here. Without essential renovations and programs, we cannot meet the increased needs of the families counting on us. A hopeful and healthy life for moms and their families begins at Discovery House, thanks to you.
